很多同學看到句意解析的題型常常會心生疑懼，其實句意解析的解題並不難，首先先瀏覽句意，找出主結構再來就是找出並理解修飾主要子句的副詞子句，兩者合併之後，本題的大概句意就可以輕鬆掌握，講起來很簡單，不過要多練習才能得心應手喔！ 

題目：Succumbing to pressure from the chemical industry, the legislature amended the regulations.

(A) The legislature surrendered to the pressure of the chemical industry and modified the regulations.

(B) The legislature objected to the pressure of the chemical industry and complied with the regulations.

(C) Despite the pressure from the chemical industry, the legislature changed the regulations.

(D) Despite the pressure from the chemical industry, the legislature insisted on enforcing the regulations.

Step 1：瀏覽句意，找出主結構：“the legislature amended the regulations” (立法機關修改了法規)。

補充：

legislature  n.  立法機關      (often)

Mr. Hosmer is an outstanding member of the legislature.  

Hosmer先生是立法機關的傑出成員。

amend  v.  修改、改過自新    (always)

The government has decided to amend the bill.

政府已決定修正這條議案。

The naughty student was determined to amend.  

那調皮搗蛋的學生決心改過自新。

同義：change, modify, revise, alter.

regulation  n.  規定(法規)、管理       (always)

We all must comply with the government's regulation.

我們都必須遵守政府的規定。

Step 2：副詞子句“succumbing to pressure from the chemical industry”(屈服於來自化學工業的壓力)修飾主要子句。合併之後→因為屈服於來自化學工業的壓力，立法機關因此修改了法規。

補充：

pressure  n.  壓力、氣壓    v.  迫使      (always)

整個地區都在高氣壓的籠罩之下。

Max's boss pressured him for results.    

Max的老闆催促他儘早拿出結果。

comply with  遵守    (always)

The government expects people to comply with the law.    

政府希望人民守法。

同義：obey, follow, observe.

(C) 儘管有來自化學工業的壓力，立法機關還是改變了規定。

(D) 儘管有來自化學工業的壓力，立法機關還是堅持執行法規。

補充：

insist on  堅持     (often)

I insist on your being present.

enforce  v.  強制執行、堅持      (always)

The police will strictly enforce these speed limits with high fines.

警方將以巨額罰款來執行這些限速措施。

The manager enforced high standards of security.    

經理堅持高安全標準。
